Psychedelics first hit American culture in the 1950s and 1960s . Although they were often used recreationally, Psychologists and other mental health professionals lauded their effectiveness in therapy. In the last fifteen years, however, there has been a resurgence of research into the use of psychedelics for the treatment of depression, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. One notable exception is Ketamine. This talk will give an overview of the history of the current status of the use of psychedelics in therapy, and will address both relevant data and important controversies.

Joe Hatcher: Professor of Psychology Emeritus, Ripon College | Licensed Psychologist, Certificates in Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration and in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy | Research Team Member of Clinical Trials of Psilocybin and 5-MeO-DMT at UW-Madison
