"Novel Destinations" - Adult Summer Reading Program 2011

“Novel Destinations” For Adults, ages 18 and older

Book a trip with the Ripon Public Library! Registration packets are available at your library, where you'll receive a program-themed tote bag and certificates for free ice cream and access to a state historical site or museum. Then come back and fill out an entry slip for every book you read during the program. You'll help raise money for the local food pantries and be entered for a chance to win great weekly & grand prizes!  Throughout June & July, explore novel destinations via new literary landscapes and the following programs:


Thursday, June 30 @ 6:30 p.m.

Travelogue – Niger West Africa  Wanda Potratz will share photos and stories in a presentation of her experience living in Niger, West Africa.


Thursday, July 7 @6:30 p.m.

Yoga-Journey to the Self  Marigold Yoga’s Jenny Tumas will lead an introductory yoga class that will teach participants how yoga postures coordinated with breath can bring you back to your own true nature of quiet and stillness!


Thursday, July 14 @6:30 p.m.

Travelogue – Egypt  Freelance writer, author, historian, and photographer David Sakrison will present slides and information about the sights he saw in Cairo, Alexandra, and Saqqara.


Thursday, July 21 @ 6:30 p.m.

Faith to Move Mountains – Panama   Robin Wallenfang and Kim Holliday will share a multimedia presentation of their trip to Panama to help build a dam in the Rio Sabana to supply fresh, mountain water to the people around Torti, Panama.


Thursday, July 28 @ 6:30 p.m.

Global Perspective – Bolivia   Jill Stiemsma will discuss the challenges international interests pose to a poor country and the difficulties of improving one’s status as the second poorest country in the western hemisphere as she shares her experiences studying in Cochabamba, Bolivia.


Movie Travelogue

The library is also hosting a Movie Travelogue for teens and adults.  Films are based on popular travel-themed books.  (All films are rated PG-13.)

  • Wednesday, June 15 @ 6 p.m. - Frances Mayes writes about her travels in Under the Tuscan Sun
  • Wednesday, June 22 @ 6 p.m. - Audrey Niffenegger explores life as a Time Traveler's Wife
  • Wednesday, June 29 @ 6 p.m. - Eat, Pray, Love your way around the globe with Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir

All events are free and do not require registration to attend. Participants do need to register for the reading portion of the programs in order to be included in prize drawings and awards.
