FREE SUMNMER EVENTS FOR GRADES 6 & UP!

  • Mon. June 16, 4-6 P.M.—Field Day for all ages:  Start your summer off with a bang at our kickoff event. Enjoy gigantic-sized outdoor games!
     
  • Weds. June 25,  6 P.M.—Henna Body Art:  Participants will learn the history & traditions of henna and observe techniques to try on themselves. **For Adults & Teens **
     
  • Thurs. June 26,  2 P.M.—Bookin’ It Up:  Unlike traditional book clubs, there is no assigned book.  Read what you want and then share it! Each month a unique prompt will get the conversation flowing. Fun and easy! RPL’s new reading group for teens meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 2 P.M. during the summer.
     
  • Papermaking Workshop!   *Registration Required.*  Local paper enthusiast, Tanya Schwartz-Roeper, will share the latest techniques in handmade paper production and paper crafting.  Attend one of the papermaking sessions on Monday or Tuesday and the return with your paper on Wednesday for a fun crafting session!

  • Tues. July 8,  2 P.M.—DIY Ice Cream:  Make ice cream in a bag, top it with root beer, & enjoy Pixar short films.
     
  • Weds. July 9,  6:30 P.M.—Minute to Win It: The pressure is on! Get silly! Get competitive as you attempt Minute-to-Win-It challenges (of NBC fame) around the library! Each 60 second challenge is sponsored by a local  business who has also contributed to a pool of prizes. Compete to win some of these local goodies.  **For Adults & Teens**
     
  • Weds. July 16,  10 P.M.—Star Party: Join us at Riggs County Park for a night of stargazing, s’mores, & glow-in-the-dark fun! Paul Kinzer, Starlab Director, shares his knowledge of the night sky.   Telescopes & binoculars provided. In the event of anticipated inclement weather, rain date set for Tues. July 15. Maps available at circulation desk. **For Adults & Teens**
     
  • Weds. July 23,  2 P.M.—Teen Craft:  Master paper crafting techniques from instructor Renee Saul to design a charming basket. Event will be hosted at Crop, Paper, Stickers, located at 206 Watson Street.
     
  • Thurs. July 24,  2 P.M.—Bookin’ It Up:  RPL’s new reading group for teens will meet at 2 P.M.
     
  • Tues. July 29,  6 P.M.—More Operation Migration:  CEO and co-founder Joe Duff provides an in-depth presentation about the highly endangered whooping crane for adults and teens. Hailed as the greatest species reintroduction in the history of conservation, the Whooping Crane project has been described as, “The wildlife equivalent of putting a man on the moon.”   **For Adults & Teens **      Visit www.operationmigration.org for more information.
     
  • Thurs.  July  31, 2 P.M.—Candy Sushi: Dabble in the confectionary culinary arts to create a sweet treat! Then, enjoy your “sushi” during a big screen movie showing. Movie TBA.

Participation in the reading & prizes element of the summer reading program does require a quick visit to the library to register.

Registration for the Spark a Reaction summer reading program begins Monday, June 9th.
