Sadly, Baby Bounce is canceled today due to illness. All should be on track by next week’s regularly scheduled session, with either Callista or Linda safely leading the April 30th workout. Good news, we will offer a make-up date on May 7!

]]> Hoopla Service Ending at Ripon Public Library https://riponlibrary.org/blog/hoopla-service-ending-at-ripon-public-library/ Mon, 27 Jan 2025 15:00:45 +0000 https://riponlibrary.org/?p=4743 After much consideration, the Ripon Public Library has made the difficult decision to discontinue access to the streaming service Hoopla, effective February 1, 2025. This decision follows a unanimous vote by the Library Board of Trustees during their January 21, 2025 meeting.

Hoopla, generously funded entirely by the Friends of the Library, operates on a “pay-per-use” model, with the library incurring costs for each item checked out. While this model offers flexibility, it becomes increasingly costly as the service grows in popularity. The difficulty with such a model is that the more patrons use it, the more expensive it becomes to maintain. Libraries nationwide are discontinuing Hoopla and similar pay-per-use services due to rising costs driven by increasing usage, compounded by tighter budgets and inflation impacts.

Despite the Friends’ generous support, the cost of continuing Hoopla has become unsustainable. We understand this change may be disappointing for many patrons. Please know that library staff are actively exploring other e-book and e-audio book options. Our goal is to find a solution that fits within our collection budget while improving access to digital materials, though we cannot guarantee a direct replacement at this time.

While we work toward identifying new options, we encourage you to continue using the Libby app by OverDrive for e-books and e-audio materials. Ripon Public Library Page

Responsibilities:

  • Shelve and organize library materials.
  • Assist patrons with finding materials and using the catalog.
  • Help with circulation tasks and library opening/closing.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly library environment.

Schedule:

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Saturdays from 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM, and Sundays from 12:45 PM to 4:00 PM. There is some flexibility with these hours based on library scheduling needs.
 
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or in progress).
  • Must be 16 or older.
  • Preferred library or customer service experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Pay: $11.07 per hour

Job Summary:

Join our team at the Ripon Public Library as a Library Page! We are seeking a courteous, dependable, and detail-oriented individual who is energetic and passionate about library services. As a Library Page, your primary responsibilities will include shelving library materials, operating a computerized check-in/check-out system, and assisting patrons with library usage. This role may require lifting and carrying objects up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a friendly demeanor.
